Statement Magazine Covers

There’s something about going out and picking up that freshly printed, hard copy of this month’s new fashion magazine. Don’t get us wrong, fashion blogs, Instagram, and online zines are great too but holding a magazine and idly thumbing through the pages is a past time and hobby that we can’t and won’t give up.

Magazines have a wider impact than many first may think and though they do receive their fair share of stick for, you know, the retouching and excessive adverts they also do some pretty good things too… they promote new designers, inspire people that read them and have the power to make strong statements with that all in important front cover. Recently, there have been some covers that caught the attention of the media and inspired us to make this blog! Let’s check out some covers that really made people stop and pay attention to them for a whole bunch of reasons…

Vogue Paris’ March cover 2017 features the beautiful, Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio. She will be the first transgender model to cover the famous magazine.

 

Nicole Trunfio breastfeeding her son on the cover of Elle Australia showed a natural event, yet many were unhappy with the image while others loved it!

Gigi Hadid has starred on many covers, her recent cover for VOGUE Arabia Hadid wears a hijab which has caused many discussions!

 

Kanye West, the king of controversy, posed as Jesus on the cover of Rolling Stone.

 

The 2008 Shape Issue of Vogue feature sports star LeBron, many were excited as he was the first black man featured on the cover, others were unhappy and said the cover was racially insensitive likening it to the famous king kong poster.

 

Lindsey Lohan posed for Purple Fashion magazine in a Jesus-like fashion.

 

The world went crazy for Caitlyn Jenner after her Vanity Fair cover.

 

Controversy has followed the recent Vogue cover, as people question whether the magazine has tried to slim down model Ashley Graham.

 

Lady Gaga took to the cover of VOGUE Hommes Japan in a meat dress!
